PURPOSE:

 

The Registered Nurse has the responsibility of overseeing the standards of nursing practice for Our Friend’s House’s Adult Day Care nursing services and supervisory responsibility to the Home Health Aides/CNA’s.  Direct care staff performs their duties under the supervision of the Operations Manager. The Registered Nurse participates with other members of direct care staff and administration in the development of participant care programs, policies and procedures to meet all requirements including ethical and legal concerns under the operating and minimum standards applicable Federal, state and local laws, regulations and contracted services.

 

Person reports to:

Adult Day Care Operations Manager and/or Executive Director.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Implementation of effective and ongoing program to monitor, evaluate and improve the quality and appropriateness of nursing and other direct participant-related care
    • Assist with inquiries and intake information calls/visits as needed
    • Determine admission eligibility of prospective participants
    • Assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluating health care needs of all participants with input from staff,  contract employees, participant/caregiver, and other service provider(s)
    • Direct staff in carrying out plan
    • Conduct care plan review and re-assessment, and adjust the scope and frequency of services to meet the needs of the participant and family/caregiver
    • Coordinate adjunct services as needed
    • Maintain progress notes as part of the clinical record
    • Maintain a medication record for each participant
    • Perform treatments as ordered by physician
    • Administer medications as ordered by physician
    • Provide direct professional nursing care
    • Assist with hands on care when necessary
  • Responsible for knowledge of and compliance, where applicable, with outside agencies
  • Serve as liaison between participant, caregiver, and primary physician
    • Provide support to participants and their families/caregivers through education and referral to community resources as needed.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring for direct care staff
    • Develop and implement in-services for staff
    • Assist with recruitment and retention of direct care staff
    • Provide input for direct care staff evaluations
    • Assist in employee and volunteer orientation program
  • Promote a professional image of the nursing profession and of Our Friend’s House
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality and uphold the mission statement and goals of Our Friend’s House
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures as needed
  • Perform Marketing and Public Relation Functions
    • Under direction of the Operations Manager and the Executive Director, market the program to the community, including speaking to community groups when needed
    • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other community service providers and agencies
    • Actively recruit new participants by maintaining community contacts
  • Participate in agency projects as required

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Must possess a current, full, active and unrestricted RN license in the state of Michigan

One year Geriatric/Long Term Care nursing experience

Must be comfortable working with elderly

Must respect and value the frail elderly

Must be proficient in spoken and written English

Must be free of criminal record

Must have the ability to motivate and encourage others

Must be dependable, honest, self-motivated, and have a good sense of humor

Must have patience
